Pawnee — William Herbert Stevens, 91, of Pawnee, Illinois, died Monday, Oct. 5, 2020, at his home surrounded by his family. William was born June 10, 1929, in Detroit, Michigan, the son of Harry H. and Beulah A. Renfrow Stevens. He married Martha E. Vangeison on Dec. 19, 1959, at Zenobia Baptist Church. She preceded him in death in 2003. He also was preceded in death by his parents and four sisters, Alice Mae Montgomery, Betty Stouse, Harriet Byrd and Kathleen Amber. William was a loving, devoted husband. He was a member of Pawnee Christian Church and the 40-Mile-An-Hour Club. He worked for the Pawnee Township for 40 years, which included serving as road commissioner for more than 20 years. He retired in 1989. He also enjoyed making toy cars and kids games for children who were hospitalized. William is survived by one son, Marvin W. (wife, Kathy) Stevens, of Pawnee; one daughter, Marsha G. (husband, Gary) Lawrence, of Iuka, Mississippi; three grandchildren, William A. Stevens, Daniella L. Tecca and Jennifer E. Stevens; two brothers, Walter A. Stevens of Pawnee and Jimmie E. (wife, Jan) Stevens of Casper, Wyoming; a sister-in-law, Ella Berry, of Pawnee; and several nieces and nephews. A private graveside service will be held at Horse Creek Cemetery in Pawnee.
